Judge Adam McGinnis was born in Detroit, Michigan and raised in Clearwater, Florida, graduating high school from Clearwater Central Catholic High School. Judge McGinnis is an Alumni of the University of Central Florida, having graduated in 2002 with a B.S. in Liberal Arts. After UCF, Judge McGinnis, attended and graduated from Barry University School of Law with his J.D. degree in 2005. While attending law school Judge McGinnis studied at the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom under the late Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court, William Rehnquist. In 2013 Judge McGinnis was awarded the 2013 Rising Star Award for distinguished alumni by Barry University. Judge McGinnis is the first graduate of Barry University School of Law to be elected as a Judge and was the Keynote speaker at the 2017 Barry Law School graduation ceremony here in Orlando.

While attending law school Judge McGinnis was active in many of the schools government bodies. Judge McGinnis was the Treasurer of the Hispanic American Law Student Association where he won the award for Board Member of the year in 2004-2005. Judge McGinnis was the Treasurer for the Student Body Government and a Board Member for Phi Alpha Delta law fraternity where he received the Justice’s Choice Award in 2003. Judge McGinnis received the Book Award for the highest grade in Immigration law in 2005. After graduation, Judge McGinnis was the instructor at the Barry University campus for Bar-bri, the leader in student bar preparation classes.

After graduation Judge McGinnis opened his own firm Adam K. McGinnis, P.L. focusing on criminal and traffic related cases. Over the course of his legal career Judge McGinnis handled thousands of cases in County Criminal and County Civil Court.

Judge McGinnis was a Florida Supreme Court Certified County Mediator having handled hundreds of County Civil cases. Judge McGinnis was an Adjunct Professor at Valencia College teaching Business Law and Business Organizations from 2009-2011.

Judge McGinnis was elected to the County Bench in 2012 by the people of Orange County and reelected in 2018 with over 65% of the vote. Judge McGinnis has had assignments in every division in County Court, including two specialized Divisions. Judge McGinnis is the only sitting Judge who has been assigned to every division of County Court.

Judge McGinnis has repeatedly scored high amongst his peers in Judicial Polls over the course of his judicial career. Judge McGinnis is noted as having a great demeanor and work ethic. Judge McGinnis is credited with streamlining civil cases with en masse hearings, which reduces case load and allows for greater access to courts. Judge McGinnis has participated as a presenter with inside the courts, a community outreach program, designed to educate private citizens on courtroom procedures and decorum. Judge McGinnis has also presented at local and state level Bar conferences educating young lawyers on various topics of law.

Judge McGinnis has been an active member in the community. Judge McGinnis is a member of the Florida Bar and Orange County Bar Association. Judge McGinnis was a board member at Lake Eola Charter School, an “A” rated school, an Usher and Day Care assistant at First Baptist Church of Orlando, a member of both the UCF Alumni Association and Barry University Alumni Association and a season ticket holder for both Orlando City Soccer Club and the UCF Knights Football. Judge McGinnis has been a volunteer soccer coach at South Orlando Soccer Club, coaching his 10 year old daughter Lilly..
